About the Role

The Activities Assistant at Altenheim plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in our assisted living and long-term care setting. This position is focused on planning, organizing, and implementing engaging activities that promote social interaction, physical well-being, and mental stimulation among residents. The Activities Assistant will work closely with residents to understand their interests and preferences, ensuring that activities are tailored to meet their individual needs. By fostering a cheerful and supportive environment, the Activities Assistant helps to create a sense of community and belonging within the facility. Ultimately, this role contributes to the overall mission of Altenheim to provide compassionate care and enriching experiences for all residents.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate a variety of recreational and therapeutic activities for residents, including arts and crafts, games, and exercise programs.
  • Engage with residents on a personal level to encourage participation and gather feedback on activities.
  • Collaborate with the care team to ensure activities align with residents’ health and wellness goals.
  • Maintain a safe and organized environment for all activities, ensuring that all materials and equipment are in good condition.
  • Document participation and outcomes of activities to assess their effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working in an assisted living or long-term care setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in recreational therapy or a related field.
  • Experience in planning and leading group activities.

The required skills of a cheerful disposition and professionalism are essential in creating a welcoming atmosphere for residents. A cheerful disposition helps to uplift the spirits of residents, encouraging them to engage in activities and socialize with others. Knowledge of assisted living and long-term care settings is crucial for understanding the unique needs of residents and tailoring activities accordingly.
